PECA X Berlin
In May 2024, PECA organized an excursion to the German Bundestag in Berlin. This trip provided our members with profound insights into German democracy.
The German Bundestag – The Heart of German Democracy
The German Bundestag, located in the historic Reichstag building in Berlin, is the central legislative body of the Federal Republic of Germany. As the cornerstone of parliamentary democracy, its key responsibilities include lawmaking, electing the Federal Chancellor, and overseeing the government. The architecture of the Reichstag, with its transparent dome and publicly accessible rooftop garden, symbolizes the openness and transparency that are fundamental to German democracy.
Historical Insights and Cultural Experiences
As part of the Bundestag tour, PECA organized a guided visit to the DDR Museum in Berlin, allowing participants to engage deeply with the daily life and state structure of the former German Democratic Republic. Additionally, PECA offered a boat tour on the Spree, giving participants the opportunity to view Berlin's distinctive architecture and historical landmarks from the water. This blend of cultural education and historical context fosters a profound understanding of Germany's past and present.
The Importance of Democracy in Current Times
PECA not only imparts knowledge through its excursions but also emphasizes the importance of active participation in democracy. In light of current challenges—from political unrest to global conflicts—it is invaluable to protect and strengthen the principles of freedom, equality, and justice. These principles not only sustain a stable political system but also foster a society characterized by respect, tolerance, and mutual understanding. Through education and engagement, PECA contributes to ensuring that these democratic values remain vibrant and continue to serve as the foundation of our liberal-democratic order.
