Excerpts from the Interview

PECA: "How do you see the future development of Germany as a business location? Is it worth it for ambitious young people to stay in Germany, or should they look for career opportunities abroad?"

Dr. von Auer: I am optimistic about Germany's future. Germans tend to be overly critical and underestimate themselves. I believe Germany is one of the best countries to live and work in.

PECA: "Do you think it's possible to be successful in a job they are not passionate about, driven purely by prestige or salary?"

Dr. von Auer: No, I don't think so. Passion for your work is essential to being successful and satisfied. Without enthusiasm, you will always perform worse than those passionate about their work and end up unhappy in the long term.

PECA: "What qualities and skills are essential today to succeed anywhere?"

Dr. von Auer: Social skills are critical. Technical skills can be learned on the job. That’s why I place more importance on teamwork abilities in interviews with entry-level candidates.

PECA: "What one piece of advice would you give to the young people attending today?"

Dr. von Auer: I would advise them to stay authentic and focus more on themselves. The social aspect of work is crucial. Avoid gossip and envy over promotions; instead, focus on your success and work.

Audience question: "How important do you think private retirement planning is, apart from the statutory pension, for example through ETFs or home ownership?"

Dr. von Auer: Private retirement planning is very important. I would recommend starting early with diversified investment products and holding them long-term. The statutory pension will increasingly serve only as a basic safety net in the future.
